Explications pour cette œuvre :

Patju has depicted the significant site of Ingkal situated to the north of traditional Spinifex Lands. This site forms a major part of the Wati Ngintaka Tjukurpa (Perentie Man Creation Line) and it is here, at Ingkal that Wati Ngintaka takes a wife in the form of Minyma Tjilkamata (Echidna Woman). Their marriage ends in tragedy, with Minyma Tjilkamata perishing at the hands of her husband. But nothing is that simple. These are creation beings who outline a moral and spiritual path that is also etched in the landscape that they themselves have shaped. They leave indelible monolithic reminders of their power and presence that give rise to Tjukurpa- the oral creationist religion that permeates the physical world that Anangu inhabit.

Patju Presley (1945) was born in the 1940s at Itaratjara, an important site between to the community settlement of Watarru and Kalayapiti in the Great Victoria Desert. He is a senior Pitjantjatjara Law man with great knowledge of the geography of the Western Desert and the associated Tjukurpa. His intimate knowledge of the country is directly related to survival in this beautiful but sometimes harsh environment learned from the generations of his ancestors.
